A few thoughts on empowerment…
Thinking back on my life the last few years, the number one word that comes to mind that has had the single greatest impact on me is empowerment. I have grown leaps and bounds both personally and professionally simply by taking the time to educate myself on topics that are important to me deep down in my core.
Four years ago, around this time, I had a brand new baby. Emelia was only a few weeks old and I was dealing with the reality of becoming a mommy for the first time. I was exhausted. My emotions were all over the place. But mostly, I was dealing with a ton of guilt for neglecting my body throughout much of my pregnancy. I simply felt blah…no other real way to describe it. It broke my heart.
Taking you back a little further, when we decided we were getting close to being ready to start our family, I was taking three different daily medications for chronic migraines. I visited my doctor to discuss some other issues related to my female reproductive system that I had also been dealing with for years and was told to stop taking the medication for migraines due to horrific side effects they can have on an unborn baby. I was also told they were concerned, based on my history, about my ability to get pregnant at all. I was scared, sad and to be honest, unsure about how the future was going to look.
This was right around the holidays so there were plenty of distractions but also plenty of ways to let my emotions get the best of me, especially when it came to food. I gained close to ten pounds between October and December, which I found out later is one side-effect from detoxing from the medication I was on for migraines.
We trudged on and decided to trust the process, leave it up to God and see where our journey would head. A few weeks after Christmas, I was shocked to find out we were expecting our first baby! After being told it may not happen, this was a complete shock but time ticked on an we found ourselves preparing for the life-changing moment of becoming parents.
Although I am not proud to admit this, I gained close to 70 pounds from the time I found out I was pregnant to the day I delivered my sweet girl and what it boils down to is the fact I was making poor choices when it came to food, exercise and even my emotional well-being.
Not only was I dealing with the emotions and changes in my body as my sweet girl was developing inside of me but I was also dealing with a ton of stress as we were in the process of going through some major changes professionally. Because I simply couldn’t fathom dealing with some of the deep rooted issues I know affected me both inside and out, I simply went through the motions day-by-day.
Fast forward to that time, four years ago, when I was staring at my newborn knowing in my heart there had to be a better way to take care of myself and this beautiful, innocent little baby who had already changed our lives in so many ways! I made the decision one day to join Weight Watchers and work on me. At the time, I called it selfish, but I carved out time in my work and new mom schedule to go to the gym, plan my meals and do research on ways we could live a more holistic lifestyle.
The weight slowly started shedding and my confidence steadily grew. I was becoming more comfortable in my own skin and could feel myself growing leaps and bounds both personally and professionally. I was officially finding my groove and it felt so. damn. good!
Around this same time, I started doing more research and it became important to me to clean up our daily routines and purge the chemicals out of our home. I began using more natural baby products and buying cleaner foods. A few months later, I was introduced to the world of essential oils and our life has never been the same (Dramatic? Yes! Absolutely true? You bet).
I was skeptical at first, as I think most people are, but I was open to the idea that there could potentially be better options for my family beyond the products and healthcare options I was raised with and used simply because I didn’t know any better.
Fast forward to today, and I just can’t shut up about what I have learned and experienced in our home simply by incorporating cleaner foods, regular exercise and the essential oils, supplements and products available through dōTERRA. I’ve learned that many of the daily products and over the counters we were using before are toxic to our bodies. The supplies I used to use to keep my home clean, smelled so strongly of chemicals and I knew in my heart I shouldn’t put my baby in the tub after a good deep clean.
Then I started thinking about beauty and self-care products. I started wanting to know exactly what we were being exposed to on a daily basis. I started paying attention to food. And it all hit me like a ton of bricks. I wanted more for my family.
I am so proud to say that I no longer worry about these things. We rely so heavily on essential oils to keep our bodies healthy, to keep our home clean and to care for our little ones. dōTERRA provides us with more natural cleaning supplies. Cleaner body and hair care products. Pure essential oils to support our bodies and I just want the world to know there are options beyond the norm! And they work. And they are changing lives.
I come in contact with a lot of people who are also hungry for better options but they just don’t know where to start. It’s overwhelming. There is a lot to learn and a lot to absorb. But I promise if you take the time to do the research and open your mind and heart to the fact that could in fact be a better way…you may just find yourself as blown away, grateful and EMPOWERED as I have been 😉
My babies are obsessed with the oils. Our immune systems are stronger. We save money on over the counters by relying on natures medicine cabinet when we need extra tummy support, sleep support, help reducing head and neck tension, emotional balance and support and so, so much more.
