Staying focused all year long!

With back-to-school in full swing, I have found myself reminiscing about my school days and all of the fun (and some not so fun) experiences I had over the years. I remember loving the fact the school year was starting but dreading all of the home work, projects and reading I would be required to do. I always loved the social aspect of school, once I got over those initial jitters (for more on that, see my previous blog post), but the work part left me feeling a little uninspired!

What’s interesting is I don’t hate reading, working or feeling productive. It’s more the struggle to buckle down and stay focused that has always been a challenge for me. Once I am able to fully engage in what I am doing, there is usually no stopping me. Getting to that point is another story…

When I first started using essential oils in our home, I was more focused on the physical benefits the oils could provide my family. Immune system support, promoting sleep and relaxation, soothing head tension, etc. were the forefront of what I using the oils for on myself and my family. Soon I started learning about the amazing affects the essential oils can have on our brain – think mood support, focus, emotions, etc.

Scientific research shows when inhaled aromatically, the molecules of essential oils are present in our brain within seconds, setting off a series of chemical reactions which directly affect our mood and emotions. To be completely transparent, I had a hard time wrapping my head around this at first but the more I thought about it, the more sense it made. Think about a time you smelled something familiar and it reminded you of a specific moment in time or a specific person from your past. Sometimes these memories can be decades old and one simple smell can bring back the emotions and feelings of those moments.

This my friends, is the core behind using the fragrance of essential oils to help with matters of the brain and for the sake of this post, focus.
